Title I coordinator Chanda Epps to serve as keynote speaker at the 21st Century Community Learning Centers 2021 Spring Institute

Chanda Epps, Title I coordinator of the award-winning family engagement program in Hampton City Schools, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) 2021 Spring Institute. The title of her presentation is Engage & Connect: Best Practices for Virtual Family & Community Engagement

Epps says her passion is working with her team of family engagement specialists to develop and sustain collaborative partnerships with parents, guardians, teachers, administrators and community members. Eager to learn effective strategies for building relationships, she seeks out innovative, yet practical ways to serve and engage all stakeholders. She has been employed with Hampton City Schools for 19 years and has 24 years of experience working with family and community programs. She has presented nationally and facilitated several workshops locally on the importance of developing and sustaining home-school-community partnerships that support family and student success. Under her leadership, the Hampton City Schools’ Title I Program has received the Successful Innovations’ National Family Engagement Award and has also received four awards from the National Network of Partnership Schools.

21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) coordinators and teachers from across the state of Virginia will gather virtually during the 2021 Spring Institute on March 10 and 11, 2021.

“Providing quality reading, math, and family engagement opportunities are major obstacles that our profession faces on a daily basis. It is critical that we as educators take the time to educate ourselves on how to implement effective and engaging reading and math strategies not just with students but also with teachers and parents,” said Anthony Tyler, education specialist with the office of ESEA programs at the Virginia Department of Education. “The Title IV, Part B Team anticipates that this year’s Spring Institute will inform, engage, and empower all of those in attendance and the communities that they serve. This Institute will move Virginia’s 21st CCLC Programs in the right direction in achieving student success beyond school hours!”

HCS extends their congratulations to Ms. Epps and thanks her for representing the division in such a positive light.
