March is multiple arts month

Hampton City Schools celebrates all visual and performing arts during March. The arts provide experiences in visual art, music, and theatre that promote problem solving, creativity, observation, collaboration, and communication.

Youth Art Month

Youth Art Month (YAM) began in 1961, to celebrate and encourage support for quality school art programs, while promoting art material safety. Hampton City Schools participates in Youth Art Month with an art exhibit, during the month of March. Historically, this art exhibit showcasing artwork from students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade is displayed at Hampton’s City Hall. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s art exhibit will be a virtual show. Once the exhibit is created, a link will be available on the HCS website.

Music In Our Schools Month

The purpose of Music in Our Schools Month (MIOSM) is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind communities that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM and the events surrounding it are the ideal opportunities for increasing awareness of the benefits of high-quality music education programs in our nation’s schools. Hampton City Schools music educators celebrate the month through music making and advocacy.

Theatre In Our Schools Month

Thousands of students and theatre educators throughout the nation celebrate Theatre in Our Schools Month during March, raising awareness about the impact of theatre education and how theatre experiences teach important 21st century skills. The celebration draws attention to the need for expanded access for all students, while supporting school theatre programs. HCS theatre celebrates with a variety of student performances and advocacy campaigns.
