HCS music education program receives national recognition for ninth year

Hampton City Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the ninth year that the division has been recognized (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022) for this award due to the efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, and community members who have made music part of a completed education for students.

Now in its 23rd year, the 2022 Best Communities for Music Education program has recognized 738 school districts and 80 schools across 44 states for the outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders and their support for music education as part of a well-rounded education for all children.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, HCS answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, facilities, support for the music program, and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“We are proud to be recognized for our ninth year as a BCME. This designation is one indicator of the community support and school system commitment to students, families, teachers, and music education in our city,” said Kelly Dee, HCS curriculum leader for visual and performing arts.
