Sheila Barnhart-Ramirez, professional school counselor at Langley Elementary School, has been selected as the Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) 2024 Elementary School Counselor of the Year. The School Counselor of the Year award recognizes two outstanding professionals, one elementary and one secondary, who have made a positive impact in their school community. Contributions to the profession are measured by the use of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national model, evidence of data-driven practices, and the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program.

“Mrs. Barnhart-Ramirez has a comprehensive school counseling program that shows evidence of innovations in counseling. She provides leadership within our department, and is continuously supporting and helping others to grow in this profession,” shared Carla Mahn, director of school development and counseling. “This prestigious honor is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, steadfast advocacy, and profound impact on the lives of students, families, and staff.”
