Dwayne Lucas, executive principal of Kecoughtan High School, earns doctorate

Dwayne Lucas, executive principal of Kecoughtan High School, has successfully defended his dissertation to earn an Ed.D. from Trevecca Nazarene University. His dissertation is titled The Effects of Self-Efficacy on African American Males in the Secondary Language Arts Classroom. 


Lucas holds a B.A. in English from Hampton University and a M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Regent University.


He began his career in Hampton in 2001 and has served as an AVID tutor at the former Spratley Middle School, English teacher at Bethel High School, assistant principal at Lindsay Middle School, academy principal at Kecoughtan High School, principal at Tarrant Middle School, and now executive principal at Kecoughtan High School.


Shameka Pollard, chief of secondary school leadership for HCS shared, “We are extremely proud of the tenacity exhibited by Dr. Lucas. This accomplishment is the result of many long days and nights dedicated to the task of taking classes, conducting research and writing, and remaining committed to our core business of teaching and learning.”
