STREAM students build go-karts in Build & Soar Program

In partnership with Experience Aviation, Flying Classroom created the Build & Soar Program, which has provided middle school students in Hampton City Schools an opportunity to build a solar go-kart during their summer session.

Students from Andrews PreK-8 School, Syms Middle School, Lindsay Middle School, Phenix PreK-8 School, and Tarrant Middle School, participated in a culminating event where they had an opportunity to showcase and test drive their go-karts on July 25 & 26, 2023.

Captain Barrington Irving, Rajeev Brown, and the lead engineer with the Flying Classroom attended both celebrations.

“We try to bring to life the things that students have to learn,” shared Barrington Irving, the founder of Flying Classroom.

Flying Classroom is a digital PK-12 grade STEM+ curriculum based on the global expeditions of Captain Barrington Irving. The Flying Classroom curriculum is full of academically rich, relevant, and rigorous learning activities aligned to STEM+. These builds were conducted with middle school students under the collaborative guidance of the Flying Classroom staff and HCS teachers. The only prerequisite for students was the focus to build & soar!
