Phoebus High School National Honor Society gifts families with toys 

The Phoebus High School (PHS) National Honor Society (NHS) hosted Christmas on Phantom Street on December 2, 2023, for families this holiday season. The organization was proud to be able to give toys to almost 200 children.

The sponsor of the organization, Ashley Winfield, reached out to all the administrators within Hampton City Schools and requested they forward the event flyer with the registration to their parents/guardians who they have identified as families who may be in need of help with holiday gifts for their children. During the year, Winfield reached out to local and corporate businesses in Hampton to receive donations for gifts. The Phoebus National Honor Society also collected donations from students, parents, teachers, and staff within Phoebus High School. A big thank you goes out to the largest donors - Target, Walmart, and D & W Premier Events. 

On the day of the event, families were greeted with smiling volunteers (students) who helped usher them to various stations within the auditorium. They were able to participate in crafts, eat delicious donated danishes and beverages from Krispy Kreme, Kroger, and Starbucks, and select toys for their children.

One of the volunteers and Phoebus student Rhianna Donelson noted, “The toy drive was very exciting to help out with. It was very amazing to see the families and children enjoying their time with this event and for them to look forward to it for the upcoming year. I really enjoyed my time and will most definitely do it again.” 

This is the second year the PHS NHS has hosted this event. Last year, there were over 20 families who were helped during the holiday season and this year the organization’s goal was to double that number. The National Honor Society will continue this initiative by helping families within our community.
