Virginia Symphony Orchestra musicians work with HCS student musicians

The visual and performing arts department has expanded its work with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) and their School Orchestra Artistic Residency (SOAR) program. Recently, professional musicians from the VSO provided clinics to Hampton City Schools student musicians.

Throughout this school year, in collaboration with HCS music educators, the VSO will provide guest clinicians and master classes to all secondary schools. This is part of the division’s secondary arts and literacy program that started last summer.

“We are proud of our growing collaboration with VSO. We have always valued the variety of outstanding VSO educational programming,” shared Kelly Dee, visual and performing arts curriculum leader. “The fourth-grade symphony orchestra field trip is one example. The work of the VSO aligns with our goals of providing life-ready skills and whole-child education.”
