HCS celebrates CTE Month®

Hampton City Schools (HCS) is excited to celebrate Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month® in our schools. CTE is education that directly prepares students for high-wage, high-demand careers. HCS hosts nine CTE program areas including: Agricultural Education, Business and Information Technology, Career Connections, Family and Consumer Sciences, Health and Medical Sciences, Marketing, Military Science, Technology Education, and Trade and Industrial Education. These program areas cover many different fields, including health care, information technology, advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management, and many more.

Today’s cutting-edge, rigorous and relevant career and technical education prepares students to graduate college, career, and life ready. Students learn teamwork, critical thinking skills, decision-making skills, and leadership in dynamic high-tech classes designed to model business and industry standards. Students can apply what they have learned in other courses with hands-on learning in CTE. CTE courses empower students and answer the questions, “Why do I need to know this?” and “How can I apply my education to a career?”.

“CTE strengthens experiential learning in the Academies of Hampton (AoH) model through access to innovative, industry standard equipment and technology, work-based learning, and opportunities to earn industry credentials,” said Seth Black, director of career and technical education for Hampton City Schools. “CTE is for everyone, and can help match students' interests with relevant coursework and activities.”
