HCS social studies department hosts veterans snack drive

The Hampton City Schools (HCS) social studies department hosted its Second Annual Snack Drive to support local veterans. HCS students and staff collected snacks to create grab-and-go snack bags to benefit the VA Hospital in Hampton.

The bags will be used at special events such as bingo and other game nights that veterans attend. In the 2022-2023 school year, 150 snack bags were created. This year the goal was to create 200 snack bags and they far exceeded that goal, creating over 400 bags. In addition, the division donated additional snacks and shelf-stable food items to support the hospital and local veterans.

“We feel honored to support our veterans and the local VA hospital,” said Ashley Ide, HCS social studies curriculum leader. “As a military community, we understand the importance of supporting those who serve and have served in any way possible. We hope these donations serve as a small reminder of our appreciation to our veterans.”

Thank you to all those who donated and supported our local veterans.
