Two KHS students place in the 3rd District Congressional Art Competition

Two Kecoughtan High School students received recognition at the 30th 3rd District Congressional Art Competition held at the Downing-Gross Cultural Art Center on May 30, 2023. Sophomore Jaris Crosby received third place for her artwork entitled Portrait of a Hampton City Schools Sophomore. Audrey Ronsonet, a senior, received Honorable Mention for her painting of blueberries.

Each spring, a nationwide high school visual art competition is sponsored by the Congressional Institute to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since 1982 when the Artistic Discovery competition began, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol and also featured on the House.gov Congressional Art Competition page.

Both Jaris and Audrey received cash awards. Jaris also received IMAX tickets and a free art class at the Charles Taylor Fine Arts Center.

Congratulations to Jaris and Audrey on their outstanding achievements and recognitions.
