HCS libraries launch a collaborative SMART initiative with public libraries

Hampton City Schools libraries launched a collaborative SMART (Student Member Access to Resources and Technology) initiative with Hampton public libraries to provide our students with access to multiple online resources. Beginning this month, every Hampton student will be able to access an entire library of curated content in the palm of their hand, including research and study materials for school purposes and fun content for their personal reading, listening, and watching pleasure.

Students can borrow ebooks, music, and audiobooks with Hoopla (which syncs across all your devices so you can stream anytime, anywhere), browse over 5,000 magazines with Magzter, learn languages with Transparent Language and Pronunciator, access fun and educational videos on Video on Demand, get homework and/or writing help with Brainfuse Helpnow, and/or take a course with Universal Class. Students can also participate and win prizes in Hampton public library’s Summer Reading Challenge through Beanstack.

Students can access these resources by going to Hampton.gov/library and clicking on the Online Resources link on the left or by going directly to Hampton.gov/onlineresources. Students will then use their student ID number anywhere that asks for a library card number to gain entry. Each online resource will walk the student through signing in or creating an account.
