Amaya Cooper, a senior at Bethel High School, gives opening at the March 6 School Board meeting

 

Amaya Cooper, a senior at Bethel High School (BHS), was selected to give the opening at the March 6, 2024, School Board meeting. She read the poem We Rise by Amanda Gorman.


Amaya is a member of the BHS Track & Field Team, the JROTC Drill Team, and the JROTC Honor Guard. She has held the leadership positions of JROTC battalion commander, the JROTC Drill Team Commander, and the JROTC Honor Guard Commander. In her free time, she enjoys painting.


After graduation from high school, Amaya is planning to attend college on an Army ROTC scholarship and major in biology. Ultimately, she hopes to become an Army officer and work in the Army Medical Department as a physician’s assistant.


Amaya was joined at the meeting by her parents, sister, grandparents, Bethel’s executive principal Dr. Tanya Howard, and the Bethel administrative team.
