Students attend campus tour at North Carolina A&T State University

On Friday, October 20, Hampton Crabbers boarded a charter bus and traveled to Aggieland completing a campus tour and attending informational sessions at the North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT). The trip was coordinated by school counselor, Mia Moore, and funded by the Student Development and Counseling Department and the Academy of Hampton - Academy League which allowed not only students from Hampton High School to attend but also students attending Kecoughtan High School, Phoebus High School, and Bethel High School to participate in this extended learning opportunity at no cost to families.

Students learned about the rich history of NCAT, a historically black college/university in Greensboro, NC, touring the beautiful campus led by a student ambassador. Following the group campus tour, students divided into smaller groups of their choosing to attend informational sessions hosted by the AFROTC Program, College of Nursing, College of Engineering, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the College of Science and Technology & College of Health and Human Services.

Melvin Brown (graduation specialist), Veronica Hill (HHS teacher), Britteny Brown (BHS school counselor), and Monique Moore-McDonald (director of program innovation and transformation for HRCAP, Inc.) accompanied the students on their visit.

“This was the first out-of-state college tour for many of our students, but this will not be the last,” said Moore. “The goal of these field trips is to encourage students to think about and finalize their post-secondary plans while being aware of the many options and opportunities afforded to students seeking post-secondary education.”
