National Bullying Prevention Month

At Hampton City Public Schools, we believe every student deserves a safe space for learning and self-expression. In October, we recognize National Bullying Prevention Month to highlight the importance of fostering a community of inclusion, safety, and respect.

On October 9, school counselors will host a “Rude. Mean. Bullying: What’s the Difference?” information session at the Y-H Thomas Community Center. Session registration information can be found here.

Let’s unify in our message! Hampton City Schools will have a Divisionwide Anti-Bullying Spirit week during the week of October 9. We ask that everyone make an effort to participate in each day’s activity as outlined below.

  • Monday, Oct. 9 - “SHADE OUT BULLIES!":  Wear your sunglasses
  • Tuesday, Oct. 10 - Team Up against Bullying: Wear your favorite team shirt or jersey
  • Wednesday, Oct. 11 - Spread Kindness: Wear a shirt with a positive message
  • Thursday, Oct. 12 - Walk in Someone Else's Shoes: Wear mismatched shoes to show compassion for the paths of others
  • Friday, Oct. 13 - Black Out Bullying: Dress in all black

Bullying is not a childhood rite of passage; it has real implications for a child’s education, health, and safety today and into the future. Bullying can leave devastating and often long-term effects such as a loss of self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression for all involved. When one out of every five students report being bullied each year, we aim to work together towards change.

This month is a time to unite nationally to educate and raise awareness of bullying prevention. We invite you to join us in raising awareness in our schools and community as we work toward our shared goal of inclusion, support, and respect for all.
