October is Virginia School Boards Association Bullying Prevention Month

Hampton City Schools joins the VSBA in recognizing the month of October as VSBA Bullying Prevention Month, with the intention that the issue of bullying and its prevention be discussed in our schools.

School board members, superintendents, teachers, and parents can play a critical role in creating a climate where bullying is not tolerated. It has been proven that when adults and children stand together, bullying ends. This is why the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) has declared October to be VSBA Bullying Prevention Month. During this month, we ask that you and your family support our prevention efforts.

Childhood bullying is a significant problem nationwide. It can cause school absenteeism, mental and physical stress, poor school performance, low self-esteem, and in some cases, school violence.

Hampton City Schools will join hundreds of schools across the country in celebrating World Day of Bullying Prevention on October 2, 2023, by wearing blue. We ask that the entire community join us and show your support by wearing the color blue on this day.

Throughout the month of October, our schools will continue to promote kindness, equality, respect, and social emotional learning competencies as well as provide bullying prevention resources to our staff and families. We hope that you use these resources and help support our efforts to “Stomp out Bullying! Together, let’s create communities that are kinder, inclusive, and accepting for all.”

Please plan to join us on Monday, October 9, 2023, at an information session for families on the topic of Bullying Prevention. Registration and logistical details for the session will be forthcoming.
