Recent HHS graduate Lisa Hill is named a semi-finalist in the Your Voice Is Power competition

Lisa Hill, a 2021 graduate of Hampton High School, was named a semi-finalist in the Your Voice Is Power-Round 2 competition.

Amazon, Georgia Tech, and Pharrell Williams' philanthropic organization, YELLOW, invited teachers to engage their students in the Your Voice is Power learning experience and coding competition. The purpose of the competition was for students to learn entrepreneurship, computer science, and social justice by remixing Pharrell's new song, Entrepreneur, on Georgia Tech's EarSketch platform.

The students had to create their own remixed version of the song which promotes equity and black entrepreneurship. They had to learn to use computer programming/coding using EarSketch to create their remix/song by coding tracks (instrumentation, vocals, and/or create their own) and submit it the nationwide competition. Submitted remixes were judged based on quality of music, code, and messaging by a panel of industry professionals There were over 800 submissions to the competition.

Lisa’s programming teacher, LaVoris Hill, introduced her to EarSketch and the competition.

“I am so proud of Lisa Hill,” said LaVoris Hill. “This is a great accomplishment. I am so excited!”

“Lisa was ecstatic to receive recognition,” said her mother, Stacey Hill. “She is grateful to Mrs. Hill because she learned how to couple music and programming.”
