Hampton City Schools names director of student services

During their meeting on August 4, 2021, the Hampton School Board appointed Dr. Syreeta Cason as the director of student services, effective August 5, 2021.

As the director of student services, Cason will plan, develop, organize, and manage implementation of services, programs and division initiatives that support the academic progress, behavioral health and social emotional learning of all students to include but not limited to restorative discipline procedures, trauma informed practices, mental health and school attendance supports.   

Cason has 14 years of experience in public education, all in Hampton City Schools. She has served in the role of a professional school counselor at Eaton Middle School and director of school counseling for Phenix PreK-8 School as well as her most recent position as the on-time graduation specialist at Kecoughtan High School since 2014. Dr. Cason is currently an adjunct professor at Aspen University and Hampton University teaching undergraduate, masters and doctoral level courses. Prior to her career in public education, she was a vocational rehabilitation counselor and rehabilitation case manager (Career Options, Inc.), a counselor (The Center for Sexual Assault Survivors), and a parent education facilitator (Healthy Families Partnership).

She attained an undergraduate degree from St. Paul’s College, followed by a master’s degree and education specialist degree from Hampton University (HU). Cason then earned a doctorate in education management PreK-12 from HU.
